credit reports
Brian M asked:

They were included in the bankruptcy, should I dispute them, call them and bug them to put 0 balance that I claimed bankruptcy? Any advice. I have been a member of Fico Deluxe monitering for about 2 months now, I am trying to be smarter what should I do to “clean my report” so it is accurate?
Bankruptcy was DISCHARGED in early June 07.
No the ones that are still on there are on my copy of the bankruptcy so I know they were filed on.
Sorry Answerer 2 your wrong. Most of the items on my credit report says ( 0 balance and in status it says Chapt 7 bankruptcy discharged)
Here is a link I found after posting this

*****The Fair Credit Reporting Act makes clear that a debt discharged in bankruptcy must be listed as having a 0 balance. FTC OSC section 607, item 6 states: “A consumer report may include an account that was discharged in bankruptcy (as well as the bankruptcy itself), as long as it reports a zero balance due to reflect the fact that the consumer is no longer liable for the discharged debt.” *****

If they don’t say included in bankruptcy, I would dispute them with them. Let the bureaus know you filed bankruptcy and they will verify that those accounts were filed on. Is it possible that not all of your account with filed in the bankruptcy?

They will not show a zero balance ever. It should show “discharged in chapter 7,11, or 13 bankrupcy.” That is the best you can hope for, they will not report it as zero unless you pay the items off.

It is great that you want to rebuild your credit but you have a bit of unrealistic expectations. I am 2 years post bankruptcy and still have a low score. You need to make your monthly payments ontime every month and get a secured credit card but don’t use it and this will rebound your credit much faster than disputing items to get them reported as discharged in bankrupcy (which is worse than showing a balance).

Dont listen to 2, she needs to check her reports because THEY should say 0 balance if you claimed them on your bankruptcy! Dispute them through the bureaus and the company not updating the information as well. Good luck! If you have FICO deluxe they have a section where you can print off premade disupte letters it is really easy(even ones for bankruptcy).
