it’s possible that the third credit reporting agency has the wrong Social Insurance Number.
it happens frequently.
it is important for you to research this problem because it may be someone else’s Social Insurance Number and you may be helping or hurting each other’s credit history.
it is also possible that he or she had another Social Insurance Number and forgot to request to merge credit histories between the two Social Insurance Numbers.
this happens all of the time.
make sure, however, to remember to take down the correct birth date for both Social Insurance Numbers due to the fact that it is sometimes required for people who request for a change of Social Insurance Numbers and provincial health insurance cards to change their birth dates prior to the issuance of new identity cards.
you are correct about it being impossible for a credit bureau not having records of a person for over 20 years.
Remember that it is humans inputting the data into anyone’s credit report.
There are errors made and it is one of the main reasons that people need to check their reports regularly. There are typos and just missing data occasionally.
I’ve not ever seen 3 reports that were identical from 3 different agencies. the main thrust of them may be similar; yet not always the details
Maybe all the credit that your friend has does not share their information with the third credit agency? Therefore it is not showing anything. This does sound very unusual though, so I’m guessing they input something incorrectly. Things like middle names, towns, cities, getting Miss/Mrs/Ms/Mr incorrect etc may all effect what credit the report brings up.
Hope this helps. Maybe your friend should phone the agency and ask them?
If your friend used a 3rd party reseller, such as True Credit, Privacy Matters, etc. to try to view his/her report than he/she should try to order a hard copy report from that particular CRA.
The other posters are correct that not all creditors report to all of the CRA’s.
But, unless your friend has/had only a couple tradelines over the past 10-20 years and those particular creditors do not report to that particular CRA then it’s quite possible your friend has a split file.
Split files happen more often than people realize. The CSR at the CRA can either make it a hassle or make it easy to have the files merged. It just depends on the CSR.
Your friend should contact the CRA and speak to them about the possibility the file being split and about merging it.
You or your friend might click on my profile and click on the last link I have listed. It is to a free credit discussion board.
Do a search in the Credit Forum for “split+file” and do some reading.
You also may be able to find contact information for that particular CRA.
Everything on that site is free to read, use and to post any questions you may have.
